Stronger Hawai‘i
Stronger Hawai’i is a vision and a initiative for a more resilient and prepared Hawaiʻi. As our island state faces disasters head-on, including pandemics, hurricanes, lava flows, fires, and floods, how the community is supported through the recovery efforts makes a difference. Through this initiative, HCF commits to providing Hawai’i’s communities with responsive and partner-driven resources, sharing updates from community organizations, and highlighting collaborative solutions on the ground. This initiative will adapt to and respond to the lived experiences and identified priorities of the responding partner communities.
When Hawaiʻi is supported together, Hawaiʻi is stronger.
Hawai‘i Community Foundation
We inspire generosity, advocate for equity, forge connections, and invest in community to create a better Hawai‘i. The Hawai’i Community Foundation strengthens Hawai‘i’s communities by creating partnerships with funders, nonprofits, community, and government leaders, because we believe the resulting alliance is more powerful than the sum of its parts. We invest in initiatives tackling Hawai‘i’s greatest needs and we create grant opportunities for local nonprofit organizations working to build a stronger Hawai‘i. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to deliver meaningful impact that will benefit Hawai‘i.
The Maui Strong Fund® supports fire-affected families and individuals through organizations providing direct services and resources aligned to immediate response and interim-to-long-term recovery. Over 110 grants amounting to nearly $25 million was distributed in the Phase 2 response, supporting immediate needs in the weeks after the fires. All Phase 3 grants, which span the months through a few years after the disaster, are currently supporting interventions focused on the stabilization of systems and structures that meet needs of the community in recovery. This includes ensuring continued access to health care, mental health, financial support, interim and long-term housing, education, childcare, food and more, as the directly affected households enter case management. Details about each grant (HCF website) Grantmaking in 2024 is currently in Phase 3.
