United for Recovery
Maui’s Pathway Home
The Maui Strong Fund was activated to respond to disaster. It has grown into a long-term engine for recovery — moving resources quickly, listening to the community's needs, and investing in organizations rooted in Maui.
Together, donors, grantees, partners, and community leaders have helped families and businesses find stability, connect to care, re-establish routines, and imagine a future where Maui’s people can remain in the places they choose to call home.

Restoring Hope
Through Community
The story of Maui’s recovery cannot be told in numbers alone.
It is told in the family moving into a safe, temporary home. The children going back to school. The survivor finding an empathetic and trusted navigator. The kūpuna receiving high-quality care. The land being cleared, planted, and restored.
The Maui Strong Fund has helped turn generosity into action, filling gaps, strengthening community-led solutions, and supporting the partners closest to the people and places affected. Through strong public-private partnerships, including collaboration with Maui County and other government agencies, the Fund has also helped leverage additional funding, expertise, and resources to maximize impact and accelerate recovery efforts across the community.

Housing
Housing is the foundation of any recovery. Having a place to live, whether temporary or permanent, is a necessary foundation for any family. Knowing you can depend on a safe place for the well-being of a family provides security and stability that strengthens every family. Home is ʻohana.
Through the Maui Strong Fund, HCF supported a continuum of housing solutions, which included: emergency shelter, rental and relocation assistance, housing navigation, property surveys, smoke remediation, interim housing, and pathways towards permanent housing including rebuilds and new developments. These investments helped wildfire survivors secure stable housing and begin rebuilding their lives, while supporting long-term solutions that prioritize local residents and help Maui families remain in Hawai'i.
Mental Health
& Wellbeing
The effects of disaster do not end once immediate needs are met. Grief, uncertainty, displacement, and recurring trauma can surface long after the first response.
The Maui Strong Fund helped wildfire survivors access clinical therapy, school-based counseling, peer support, cultural practices, art, movement, music, family support, and trauma-informed care. The goal is not only to respond to crisis, but to help people feel safe, connected, and supported as recovery continues.

Recovery Pathways / Case Management / Navigation
Recovery is complex. For many survivors, the most important support is a trusted person who can help them understand options, complete applications, access benefits, interpret complex instructions, navigate legal issues, and make decisions during an overwhelming time.
Through the Maui Strong Fund, HCF enabled wildfire survivors access to legal services, financial counseling, housing navigation, translation, community resource navigation, and culturally grounded support. These pathways helped bridge the gap between large-scale recovery systems and the day-to-day needs of people rebuilding their lives.

Children, Kūpuna
& Families
Recovery goes beyond rebuilding homes. It's about restoring the routines, relationships, and opportunities that help people thrive. A day at school, time with friends, a place to play sports, create art, or explore new possibilities all contribute to healing.
Through the Maui Strong Fund, children, kūpuna, and families affected by the wildfires found opportunities for connection, healing, resilience, and a sense of normalcy through summer and intersession camps, grief and trauma counseling, arts and culture programs, leadership development, disaster readiness efforts, family resource centers, and direct support for students and families.

Natural & Cultural
Resources
Recovery is not only about physical structures. It is also about land, water, native plants, cultural practices, and the people whose work restores and protects them.
Maui Strong Fund partners are helping communities reduce future fire risk, restore damaged soil, remove hazardous waste, stabilize burn areas, replant native plants, monitor water quality, and create workforce pathways rooted in restoration and protection.

Trust Is a Part
of Recovery
Donors gave with urgency, compassion, and faith. HCF’s responsibility has been to steward those resources with transparency, accountability, and care.
The Maui Strong Fund has moved from rapid relief into sustained recovery, awarding and committing resources to trusted partners while continuing to publish grant information, reinvest earned interest, and align philanthropic dollars with public recovery efforts and community-identified needs.

Work for Recovery
There is Still Work Ahead

Inspired by the lessons of the Maui Strong Fund and the recovery journey following the Lahaina wildfires, the Stronger Hawai'i Fund was created to serve all islands before, during, and after times of crisis.
Unlike disaster funds tied to a single event or location, Stronger Hawaiʻi provides flexible, unrestricted support that can be deployed wherever it is needed most, from preparedness and risk reduction during blue skies to immediate response and long-term recovery during gray skies. By investing in both resilience and recovery, the fund helps ensure Hawaiʻi's communities are not only better prepared for future challenges, but stronger because of them.

Continue the Recovery
What began as a rapid response has become a long-term commitment to recovery, resilience, and a stronger future shaped by the perseverance of Maui's people, the collective efforts of community partners, and the generosity of donors.
Continue the recovery with us.
