Common Questions
Here, you will find answers to common questions about the Stronger Hawai`i initiative. If your question is not listed, please contact us.
Who is Stronger Hawai‘i?
Stronger Hawaiʻi is the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation’s commitment to being here for our islands not only when disaster strikes, but long before and long after.
Stronger Hawaiʻi supports statewide disaster and emergency related preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation, and resilience. HCF has walked alongside Hawaiʻi’s communities through floods in Kaua’i, lava flows in Puna, floods in Hau’ula and Ko’olauloa, the Covid-19 pandemic, and most recently, the wildfires in Maui. Each response deepened our relationships with the organizations, partners, and communities doing important work on the ground and showed us what coordinated, community-centered support can make possible at scale.
Stronger Hawaiʻi carries that history forward. It brings people information on the partners and resources helping our communities prepare, respond, and recover.
I’m directly affected or know someone affected by a disaster; how should I use this site?
We are continuously working to gather and share information that may help connect people to support on this site. As situations evolve, we will continue to add resources that may be helpful to those in need.
Please note that this site is intended for informational purposes only. For official emergency guidance, evacuation orders, and verified assistance programs, always refer to your county’s Civil Defense agency and state and federal emergency management authorities. In an emergency, call 911.
What is the difference between this website and other resource websites?
The Stronger Hawai‘i site bridges available resources and those seeking more information about accessing resources. A wide range of programs and services is available from numerous entities, and this site is not exhaustive. Stronger Hawai‘i seeks to amplify awareness and bridge the gap between those who need kōkua (help) and those who can give kōkua (help). In addition, this site will provide educational materials that might be helpful to people interested in engaging in disaster response and preparedness in Hawai‘i.
Is this only for Maui?
Stronger Hawai‘i is a Statewide initiative that will continue to adapt to community needs and may activate when the State or respective Counties experience a disaster. At that time, the website will update and sort resources and media updates by island, when appropriate.
I have a resource I want to list on your website. Do you accept submissions?
Yes. Stronger Hawai‘i will accept recommendations for publicly shared resources. Please send suggestions, and the staff will review the request. Requests submitted should provide services or resources to directly affected individuals/households.
Please include: Organization name, program/resource name, 50 word description, relevant dates, contact information for the resource and optionally, you may include a photograph.
